Mission

To provide members with opportunities to learn about and enjoy the art and science of growing flowers, fruits, trees and vegetables.

Meetings

When: 6p.m. the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays during fall semester; every Tuesday during spring semester
Where: Lord and Burnham Greenhouse Classroom - Campus Map

Activities

At meetings, old and new business is discussed and new ideas are welcomed. A room in the Lord and Burnham Greenhouse belongs to the club and is used as a resource to help students learn propagation, greenhouse management, watering techniques, repotting, and also holds inventory for various plant sales.  Educational trips and social events are also planned for club members.

Plant and Produce Sales

Four plant and produce sales are held during the year in which members actively participate in every aspect of production, from planting to sale.

  • Fall Succulent Sale
  • Fall Pumpkin Sale
  • Spring Succulent Sale
  • Spring Bedding Plant Sale (the week before finals week)

Special Events

  • We try to plan trips throughout the year to places in the region we think will provide a unique learning experience for the members. Past trips have included Powell Gardens in Kansas City, MO, Como Park Zoo and Observatory, Oregon and California.
  • Twice a year we celebrate our seniors by taking them out to dinner at the restaurant of their choice.
  • We take small trips to the NDSU Dale E. Herman Research Arboretum, local businesses and plan fun events like wreath making, Thunder Road and bowling.

Scholarships

Each year the club awards two $300 scholarships to active club members with a GPA of 2.5 or higher, one to a horticulture major and one to a non-horticulture major. A faculty scholarship committee determines the winner.
