The field day will begin at 4 p.m.“This event will showcase some of the exciting research being conducted in our horticulture department at NDSU and give field day participants a chance to see how some of the projects we are working on might be suitable for their gardens, orchards or farms,” says Harlene Hatterman-Valenti, NDSU Department of Plant Sciences professor and field day organizer. The field day will include presentations on:Caterpillar tunnel grapesHigh-tunnel tomatoesApples for fresh eating and hard cidersHydro-mulching for weed controlEvaluating new brassica cultivars for yield and stress toleranceEvaluating garlic cultivars Floral hemp research Grape and juneberry breeding researchWoody plant breeding researchRegistration is needed for the boxed dinner available at 6:30 p.m. Please register by Sept. 2 at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090C4EAAA828A4F94-ndsu1 Directions to the NDSU Horticulture Research Farm:From Interstate 94, take Wheatland Exit 324 onto Cass County Road 5 and head north toward Wheatland. The road curves to meet Cass County 10 (35th Street SE) shortly after passing through Wheatland. At that stop sign, turn north onto County 10. Follow the curve to the west, then turn right and head north, continuing on Cass County 5 (148th Ave SE, a paved road). At the Absaraka intersection (Cass County 5 and 30th St SE, marked with Absaraka turn sign), turn right. Continue east until you reach the first left (section line) and turn left (149th Ave SE) and head north. Continue north until you reach the first left (section line) and turn left (29th St SE). This road is marked with a sign that says “Minimal Maintenance Road.” The arboretum is down this road on the left.Use the following GPS address: 14850 29th St. S.E., Amenia, ND, 58004. This address takes you to the crossroads of 29th Street Southeast and 149th Avenue Southeast. The farm is just due west from this address on the minimal-maintenance road, 29th St SE.
