Weed Scientists Recognized at National Meeting
The North Dakota State University (NDSU) Department of Plant Sciences Weed Science group participated in the 76th North Central Weed Science Society (NCWSS) meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan, December 13-15, 2021. Several members of the group were recognized for their contributions to the society.
Recognitions
Crop and Weed Sciences undergraduate Emma Mitchell won first place in the undergraduate student poster contest in the Weed Biology, Ecology, and Management section.
Research specialist Nathan Haugrud served as vice-chair of the Agronomic and Specialty Crops section, and will be chair of the section in 2022.
Professor Harlene Hatterman-Valenti passed the presidential gavel to her successor and now serves the society as Past President. As part of her presidential address, she reflected on the NCWSS summer student weed contest hosted at NDSU in July 2021.
Extension Weed Specialist Joe Ikley serves on the NCWSS Board of Directors as Communications Editor.
NDSU Plant Sciences alum Kevin Thorsness (PhD 1992, advised by Calvin Messersmith) received a Distinguished Achievement Award for his career in industry.
The group authored or co-authored seven oral presentations and eight poster presentations at the meeting. Presentations covered a wide breadth of undergraduate, graduate, commodity funded, and historical research at NDSU.
