North Dakota State University is offering a new agriculture scholarship, beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year, in memory of North Dakota farmer Doug Dulmage. The Doug Dulmage Memorial Scholarship Endowment will be available to incoming first-year students who are pursuing a major in the NDSU College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources. Preference will be given to a student who graduated from a high school in Benson, Towner or Ramsey counties — Dulmage’s home area. Students can receive the scholarship all four years if they remain enrolled in the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources and remain in good academic standing.

“This scholarship is a wonderful opportunity for students in Benson, Towner and Ramsey counties with a passion for agriculture,” says Carrie Hammer, Associate Dean of the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources. “We hope youth in those communities will explore the vast academic offerings from NDSU Agriculture and the incredible career opportunities that exist in the region’s agriculture sector. We are grateful to Doug Dulmage’s family and friends for establishing this outstanding scholarship.”

The College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources offers 17 undergraduate programs: agribusiness, agricultural economics, agricultural education, agricultural sciences, animal science, biotechnology, crop and weed sciences, economics, equine science, family and consumer sciences education, food science, horticulture and urban agriculture, microbiology, natural resources management, precision agriculture technology and management, pre-veterinary medicine, and veterinary technology. For more information about these academic programs, visit www.ndsu.edu/programs.

Doug Dulmage was a 1989 agricultural economics alum of NDSU. He and his family lived in Irvine Township on the Dulmage family farm near Leeds. He was a progressive farmer and an involved community member. Dulmage served as a volunteer firefighter, an EMT and a longtime member of the North Dakota Farm Bureau. He was chairman of the Leeds Lutheran Church Council, the Leeds Lutheran Church Endowment Fund and the NDFB Young Farmers and Ranchers. Dulmage also served on the Leeds City Council and was chairman of the board at BTR Elevator.

Dulmage passed away in the fall of 2022 and left a legacy of humor, generosity, kindness and helpfulness.
