Peace Officer Licensure
NDSU criminal justice students are eligible to pursue a path to peace officer licensure in North Dakota through cooperation with the Fargo Police Department (FPD). By attending the Fargo Police Department Academy, students will participate in a North Dakota Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board approved curriculum. Successful completion of this academy will enable students to be ND POST license eligible, upon employment with a North Dakota law enforcement agency.
Through an agreement with the Fargo Police Department, NDSU criminal justice students may apply for and attend the FPD Academy in the summer after a student’s junior or senior year. This tuition-free academy will include training on ND POST Board approved terminal performance objectives to include firearms, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operation, crime scene investigation, and criminal law. This academy will also serve as an NDSU internship opportunity where students will gain hands on experience with the largest municipal law enforcement agency in North Dakota.
The Fargo Police Department works hand in hand with NDSU to provide information and a path towards a career in law enforcement. The Fargo Police Department regularly holds informational meetings with NDSU and the NDSU Criminal Justice Club, and all students are invited to attend.
