Campus Veterans’ Day Ceremony set

SHARE

In honor of Veterans Day, NDSU’s Bison Student Veterans and Veterans Alliance Organization are scheduled to co-host a short ceremony on campus at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Memorial Union. The ceremony is open to the public. All NDSU faculty, staff and students are invited to attend.

The ceremony begins near the coffee shop on the main floor of the Memorial Union, with welcoming remarks by Laura Oster-Aaland, vice provost for student affairs and institutional equity.  U.S. Army veteran Rev. Steven Giddens, an NDSU doctoral candidate, teacher and supervisor in NDSU’s Counselor Education and Supervision program, will give the event’s keynote address.  U.S. Air Force veteran Jim Stoddard, assistant director for Veterans Educational Training and VALOR board member, will serve as the event’s master of ceremonies.

If the weather allows, attendees also are invited to reassemble at the flag plaza outside the Memorial Union’s south entrance for a brief flag raising ceremony performed by cadets from NDSU’s Army and Air Force ROTC detachments.  Soloist for the playing of Taps will be NDSU student Hannah Baum, an instrumental music major from Farmington, Minnesota.

“By making a special effort to acknowledge and thank our living veterans in a ceremony like this, our NDSU community lets them know that we appreciate the sacrifices they’ve made to prevent and respond to national emergencies, and that we’re here to support them in their new endeavors”, said Stoddard.
