NDSU graduate and Fargo North High School history teacher Zach Hochhalter was recently selected as a nominee for National History Day’s prestigious 2024 Behring Teacher of the Year award.
Hochhalter earned both his bachelor’s degree in social science education and Master of Education from NDSU.
The Behring Teacher of the Year award honors one middle school and one high school teacher per year for outstanding history education and classroom engagement. The award is sponsored by the late Patricia Behring, a philanthropist and champion for education.
A total of 102 teachers selected each receive $500 as nominees, while the overall winners received a $10,000 cash prize.
NHD is a non-profit organization based in College Park, Maryland, that seeks to improve the teaching and learning of history.
