Student Support Services helps NDSU students succeed in and out of the classroom.
NDSU has a variety of programs in place to help students succeed. TRIO Student Support Services is one that aims to increase graduation rates of low-income, first-generation and disabled students. Eligible students can receive career guidance, instruction, mentoring and tutoring.
NDSU senior Katelyn Boehm has been a part of TRIO SSS since she was a freshman. During her time at NDSU, she has seen many students empowered by the resources it offers.
“Although the transition from high school to college can be daunting, NDSU students can be comforted in the fact that there are many resources to help aid in the adjustment process,” said Boehm, a nursing major from Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. “I have had a great experience being part of TRIO Student Support Services, and I have seen and experienced its many benefits.”
As a first-generation college student, Boehm utilized the TRIO Peer Mentor program to help her get acquainted with the campus, the nursing program and other resources at NDSU. Peer mentors are experienced NDSU students who are involved on campus and trained to help students transition to college life.
“At first, I was really stubborn and didn’t want to ask for any help. But looking back I’m so happy I chose to be a part of this program,” Boehm said. “The Peer Mentor program provides opportunities for students to enhance their academic and personal skills which sets them up for a successful career.”
