Cheryl Wachenheim, professor of agribusiness and applied economics, has been recognized with the Tri-College University Excellence in Innovation and Adaptive Education Award.

The honor acknowledges her innovation, creativity and successful use of technology to produce high-quality education under the challenges of transitioning to a fully distance delivery classroom as a result of the global pandemic.

“Education faculty were challenged with developing new delivery systems over a very short period to ensure quality instruction prevailed over the challenges presented by COVID-19 limitations,” said Tri-College Provost Tim Flakoll. “Educators performed this task with amazing results and ensured that students stayed on track to achieve their academic goals.”

Her letter of nomination stated, “Dr. Wachenheim epitomizes excellence in transitioning to distance delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic. She moved with lightning speed using creative and innovative methods as she transitioned her spring classes to remote learning. She then leveraged her growing knowledge of the student experience and technologies available for remote learning to help her colleagues succeed. She clearly highlights excellence and fuels how we will deliver excellent instruction in the future.”

Tri-College University partnered with Xcel Energy to provide five awards – one at each of the partner campuses of Concordia College, Minnesota State University Moorhead, NDSU, Minnesota State Community and Technical College and North Dakota State College of Science. Award recipients received a plaque and cash award.

Tri-College University is a partnership that celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Its partner campuses represent approximately 35,000 full- and part-time students.
