NDSU’s Military and Veteran Certification office supports more than 500 students, including Kalli Anderson, above, who works in the MVC office.
NDSU’s Military and Veteran Certification office supports more than 500 students using their education benefits through the GI Bill and U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. The office’s mission is to support military members, veterans and their families with their education benefits and to assist them in achieving their academic goals.
“My dad is part of the Minnesota National Guard and I am currently using his educational benefits. The Military and Veterans Certification office made my transition to NDSU smooth and I felt very confident entering my first semester at NDSU,” said Kalli Anderson, a freshman psychology and criminal justice double major from Marshall, Minnesota. “Because I am receiving GI Bill benefits, I am able to understand and help other students with questions and concerns. This office is also a great place to work and I have had such a positive experience working with active-duty members, veterans and their families.”
Education beneficiaries include active duty, veteran, guard or reserve and dependents of service members. Their benefits vary greatly as each benefit is uniquely different. Active duty, veterans and some guard or reserve students are eligible for post-9/11 benefits that assist with tuition, fees, housing and books. Dependents can be eligible for transferred post-9/11 benefits or dependent education assistance resulting from a service-connected disability.
Most guard/reserve students are eligible for a monthly stipend, federal tuition assistance and state tuition reimbursement.
Students can contact the Military and Veteran Certification office with questions regarding their benefit or to determine eligibility for education benefits. Visit Ceres Hall, Room 211 or check online for resources.
