Bradford Strand, professor of health, nutrition and exercise sciences, has received the Bernard S. Rodey Award from the University of New Mexico Alumni Association. The honor recognizes leadership efforts that have contributed significantly to the field of education.
Strand has conducted more than 275 presentations, workshops and demonstrations and is the lead author of three books. He has published more than 170 professional articles and abstracts on physical education, fitness education, youth sport, leadership, and technology in physical education and secured more than $1.15 million in grants and contracts.
He has served on 18 national boards and received many professional honors, including Distinguished Administrator Award from the National Association for Kinesiology in High Education; Scholar of the Year Award for the Central District of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance; twice awarded Exceptional Contributions to Scholarly Activity from the NDSU College of Human Development and Education; twice named Researcher of the Year for the NDSU Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation; twice named Teacher of the Year in the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation at Utah State University.
Strand earned his bachelor’s degree at Mayville State University, master’s degree in physical education from NDSU and his doctorate at the University of New Mexico.
