Fulbright Scholars recognized at luncheon

SHARE

NDSU Faculty Immigration hosted a Fulbright Scholar Luncheon on April 4 for the most recent faculty to have returned from their Fulbright programs. It was the first recognition luncheon to be held since the pandemic began.

The NDSU Fulbright Scholar Wall is located in the Memorial Union next to the International Student and Study Abroad Services Office, and displays the Fulbright Scholars faculty currently employed at NDSU.

The most recent inductees were:

• Catherine Kingsley Westerman, associate professor of communication, who visited South Korea in 2021 with a Fulbright Teaching/Research Award

• Marinus L. Otte, professor of biological sciences, who visited Mexico in 2021 with a Fulbright Specialist Award

• Seth C. Rasmussen, professor of chemistry and biochemistry, who visited Australia in 2018 with a Fulbright Teaching/Research Award

Fulbright Scholar Awards are prestigious and competitive fellowships that provide opportunities for scholars to teach and conduct research abroad. Fulbright scholars also play a critical role in U.S. public diplomacy. Alumni include 61 Nobel Laureates, 89 Pulitzer Prize winners, 76 MacArthur Fellows and thousands of leaders and world-renowned experts in academia and many other fields across the private, public and non-profit sectors.

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is funded by Congress, directed by the U.S. State Department and administered by the Institute of International Education.

As a student-focused, land-grant, research institution, we serve our citizens.
