Jeff Knight, assistant professor of graphic design, has received a Graphic Design USA award for a series of posters he created for Fargo-Moorhead’s Theatre B.

GDUSA awards go to the best graphic design work submitted by both large design agencies and independent designers from across the country. Knight won the "Poster Design" design category.

The posters advertise Theatre B’s 20th season. The troupe’s second show, “An Act of God,” opened Nov. 7 and will run through Dec. 17.

“I'm always proud to win an award for my design work because typically it is decided on by peers in a different part of the country,” Knight said, noting he received his award certificate on Nov. 15. “It's good to know that the work I make still resonates with other graphic designers, as well as fellow industry experts in marketing and design.

“It's also important for students to be reminded that their instructors are not just teaching the work they do, but are actively making it as well,” he said. “This helps reinforce their confidence in being taught by those who understand contemporary visual communication as it exists in a working environment outside of the classroom.”

The posters were on display earlier this year during the NDSU School of Design, Architecture and Art’s faculty show in the Flakoll Gallery at Renaissance Hall.

Graphic Design USA is a business-to-business information source for graphic design professionals. It produces a website, monthly e-newsletter, digital magazine and conducts several national design competitions. Established in 1963, GDUSA’s main office is in New York City.

Knight joined the NDSU faculty in 2020. He earned his bachelor’s degree in communications, art studio at Concordia College, Moorhead, and his Master of Fine Arts in graphic design from Savannah College of Art and Design, Georgia. Knight also is the owner of Cereal, a graphic design studio.
