NDSU has about 300 student organizations to choose from. Getting involved on campus can expand a student's social circle, help them get to know campus and improve a number of skills.
Getting involved at NDSU can open doors to new experiences and lasting friendships. The university has more than 300 student groups, clubs and organizations that cater to a wide variety of interests and lifestyles.
“There are many ways for students to get involved on campus. The best way to find a group to join is to visit myndsu.ndsu.edu where you can see over 300 organizations on campus,” said Maximus Swenson, a junior business administration major who is executive commissioner of the Congress of Student Organizations. “You also can see different upcoming events on campus and when groups are meeting. It is very easy to click “join” once you have logged in and start getting updates from different groups.”
There are many groups with diverse interests represented on campus, and deciding which group is right for you can be a challenge. If you're unsure where to start, Swenson recommends just trying it.
"There are hundreds of different groups here on campus from cultural, athletic, arts and business, to name a few categories,” Swenson said. “Groups welcome new people with open arms and always look for new people to share their interests with. It never hurts to show up, and if you don’t like it you don’t have to go back, but maybe you will meet lifelong friends.”
Another benefit of participating in activities on campus is that they can expand your social circle, help you get to know campus better and improve your skills—all of which are important throughout your life.
“The clubs and groups on campus allow you to experience more than what you learn in the classroom,” Swenson said. “Many groups help build connections with the outside world, for example in the real estate club we get to listen to and meet different professionals. Combining this with the information learned inside the classroom, you start to make the connection between what you learn and how it can be applied.”
Getting involved at NDSU is one of the best ways to get the most out of college.
“Being involved on campus can make or break your college experience,” Swenson said. “Everyone says it over and over again, but it really is a simple fact. It allows you to make new friends, be around like-minded individuals, gain leadership experience and add valuable items to your resume.”
