Dr. Johnson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at North Dakota State University and an Adjunct Scientist at the Sanford Center for Biobehavioral Research. Prior to joining NDSU in 2012, he earned a Ph.D. in Cognition and Perception from the University of Iowa in the lab of Dr. John Spencer and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison working with Dr. Brad Postle. Dr. Johnson’s lab uses behavioral methods, electroencephalography (EEG), non-invasive brain stimulation, and neural modeling techniques to elucidate the neural and cognitive mechanisms supporting our ability to selectively attend to and remember visual information. More recently, he has established a federally funded translational research program that uses EEG, resting-state functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (rs-fMRI), and ecological momentary assessment (EMA) to study the role of cognitive factors in the onset and maintenance of disordered eating behaviors. He also collaborates with Sanford researchers to study changes in attention and memory that accompany healthy aging and the progression of neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s Disease.
