An Introduction to Graduate School

(From My Completely Biased Perspective)

What does it take to succeed in graduate school?
Another difference with graduate school is that the traits that make someone a successful undergraduate student aren't necessarily the same things that make for a successful graduate student. Besides being strong inside the classroom, you also need to be self-directed, curious, hard-working, and engaged in your work so that you can succeed in all the other aspects as well.

You'll also find that your relationships with fellow graduate students and faculty members will play an important role in your graduate education. These connections are important both professionally and personnally. In particular, you're going to have a much tighter and important relationship with your faculty advisor. In my discipline, the system is fairly close to a master and apprentice model, and it is really important that you are able to work well with your advisor and that you two are on the same page about your graduate education.

Here is a list of the major questions I discuss to help you navigate through everything
