For current NDSU students or students interested in transferring to NDSU that are interested in submitting an application.  

The NDSU Veterinary Technology Program is a limited enrollment program and students must apply for one of up to 30 seats accepted annually. A student must complete one or more semesters of study at NDSU as a Pre-Veterinary Technology Major prior to application. Any student can attend the pre-professional Veterinary Technology Program courses, but in order to continue on the path toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Technology, a student must be selected as a viable candidate as one of the up to 30 students selected. Applicants are selected in June of each calendar year to begin as Professional Veterinary Technology Program students the following fall semester.

Application materials are subject to change on an annual basis.

What is the application deadline?  

All materials must be submitted by 5 PM Central the third Friday of May.   

How many students will be admitted into the Veterinary Technology Professional Program each year?  

Up to 30 qualified students. Students apply by the first Friday in May each year and are evaluated/ranked. Selected students begin the Professional Program the following Fall semester. 

Do I need to be vaccinated with RABIES to apply?

Once admitted to the program, you are required to be vaccinated against RABIES in accordance with our program Rabies Prevention/Protection documentation. Proof of vaccination series completion must be submitted to the Program Co-Directors on or before the first day of classes for the Fall semester in which the students begin working with live animal educators.

Application Requirements 

  1. Completion of at least 12 credits at NDSU or other college or university by the end of the spring semester of application, GPA Grade of “C” or higher
  2. Completion or current enrollment, earning a grade of “C” or higher in NDSU VETS 115 Medical Terminology (offered during Spring and Summer semesters)
    1. Recommended courses (offered during Fall Semester only) 
      1. ANSC 218 or VETS 135 Anatomy and Physiology of Domestic Animals 
      2. ANSC 219 or VETS 136 Anatomy and Physiology Lab 
  3. A brief personal interview with the program directors 
    1. The interview will be utilized to evaluate each applicant prior to acceptance.  Please review the scoring rubric for information on what the interview will seek to evaluate.
      1. NDSU student interviews will be conducted face-to-face/in person 
      2. Transfer students can choose the face-to-face/in person option if residing near the main NDSU campus. If not residing near campus, a Zoom option will be available. All interviews will be video/voice recorded for candidate evaluation team review. 
  4. Qualifying results on the Wonderlic Pre-Admittance Scholastic Level Examination

When will I know if I’ve been accepted in the professional program? 

Final evaluations will be completed when spring semester grades are received. You will be by email on or before June 3, 2024.
