Internships

Unlock Your Potential

Internships are a critical ingredient in the successful mix of education and experience necessary to success in a communication-related field. Media-rich Fargo-Moorhead offers the most internship opportunities between Minneapolis and Spokane. Additional possibilities are available on campus through the university relations office, extension communication, sports information, and other areas.

Students must arrange their internships through the Department of Communication's Internship Coordinator after they have taken enough courses in the major to contribute something of value to an employer. Internships can be paid or unpaid, selected by the student with the coordinator's agreement or requested by an employer.

All internships must be approved by the department in advance. Students are eligible for one credit for every 40 hours worked. Three credits fulfill the field experience requirement of your major, and three additional credits can be applied to major electives (standing in for one upper-division COMM course).

Recent communication student internships include work on newspapers, radio stations, television stations, non-profit organizations, and commercial firms.

For more information, please contact the department's internship coordinator, Funmilayo Odufuwa. You can also schedule an appointment with them via Bison Advise (formerly Navigate).
