Continuing Education Units for Licensed Professionals

Continuing education units (CEUs) are for professionals from a variety of occupations that require a license. These classes, events, workshops, and conferences offer CEUs and vary in their ability to be used toward your license. Learning opportunities are offered online or in a traditional classroom setting to ensure convenience and flexibility.

The CEU may be used for the measurement, recording, transfer and recognition of participation by adults in non-credit activities. A CEU is defined as "ten contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction and qualified instruction."

Individuals and groups may seek to offer CEUs through NDSU's Continued Learning program by filling out the CEU proposal form using the "Offer a CEU" button below.

The registration fee for recording a CEU is $10 per person per offering.

Getting Started

A Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is used for activities which do not qualify for college credit. Please review the additional registration information below.

Continuing education units (CEUs) do not require admission to North Dakota State University because they are not eligible for credit towards degree seeking programs. CEUs will appear on a continuing education transcript which is different from a traditional transcript. CEUs have their own transcript system that is run through the Office of Teaching and Learning.

Continuing education units (CEUs) are generally charged $10 per person per activity; however, sometimes there are grant funds that pay for the CEU fee which makes them free to you. Please check each individual listing for pricing information.

A CEU registration is not able to be canceled so please ensure you want the CEU before you register for the course or workshop.

CEUs are approved by the various licensing bodies that require them. This means that NDSU or the organization we partner with to offer CEUs must apply to the different licensing bodies before CEUs can be offered. Some licensing bodies do not require preapproval of CEUs as long as another agency approved them or as long as the topic is related to their specific need, in these situations NDSU may offer general CEUs. General CEUs can also be used by companies to verify that the employee attended the course.

Participants should verify standards with their organization or licensing board to ensure these classes will meet their individual needs prior to registering.

NDSU Continued Learning is accredited through NDSU's accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission.
