6 to 8 Months Prior to Application Deadline
- Use the program finder to research different, application requirements and how to apply.
- Plan how you will fund your graduate studies.
- Arrange a virtual meeting or campus visit with the graduate admissions team, if desired.
- Write a first draft of your statement of goals/personal statement.
4 to 6 Months Prior to Application Deadline
- If you’re applying to a research program (i.e., Ph.D.), connect with potential faculty advisors to discuss research opportunities.
- If you’re applying to a professional program (i.e., MBA), find information about course delivery mode and course schedule on program pages.
- Register for any required standardized tests. Allow time to study and to take the exam(s).
2 to 3 Months Prior to Application Deadline
- Visit your program's page to see application requirements and how to apply to your specific program. Search for your program by using the Program Finder.
- Finalize your statement of purpose and ask a friend or mentor to revise it.
- Order official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions.
1 to 2 Months Prior to Application Deadline
- Submit application form and pay application fee.
- Provide information to each of your recommenders to assist them in writing a recommendation.
2 Weeks Prior to the Application Deadline
- View your application checklist to ensure all application materials have been submitted. Contact the Graduate School with any questions.
Tips for Graduate Applicants
- Not sure which program to select? Read about course offerings and faculty research areas, consider accreditation, and talk to your current professors or professional mentors to ask their advice.
- Some programs offer virtual or in-person open houses for prospective students. Contact the Graduate School or graduate program to learn more.
- Applicants to Ph.D. programs should contact potential advisors whose research interests align closely with their own.
- If your selected graduate program does not offer funding, utilize Grad$ense to find external funding and/or make a budget.
- Submit your application and all required application materials by your program’s priority deadline for full admission and funding consideration.
