NDSU’s Veterans Alliance Organization (VALOR) and the Bison Student Veterans club invite the campus community to attend a short ceremony on Friday, Nov. 8, at 8:30 a.m. to commemorate Veterans Day.
The ceremony will begin indoors in Ballroom B of the Memorial Union with welcoming remarks by Laura Oster-Aaland, vice provost for student affairs and institutional equity.
Cheryl Wachenheim, interim chair of agribusiness and applied economics, will give this year’s keynote address. Wachenheim currently serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Minnesota Army National Guard with previous deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
After the remarks and if the weather allows, attendees will be invited to reassemble at the flag plaza outside the Memorial Union’s south entrance for a brief flag raising ceremony performed by cadets from NDSU’s Army and Air Force ROTC detachments. The ceremony should conclude by approximately 9 a.m.
“It’s been great to bring the Bison community together like this for so many years to show our veteran students and employees how much they are valued. We have another excellent keynote speaker lined up, and we’re having one of our student veterans perform the National Anthem, so I think this event just gets better every year,” said U.S. Air Force veteran Jim Stoddard, assistant director for Veterans Educational Training and Bison Student Veterans advisor.
