NDSU Libraries, NDSU Press and the College of Arts and Sciences are pleased to host the 2024 Gunlogson Presentation, featuring the work and research of Rooth Varland, NDSU professor in the Division of Performing Arts.
Varland is one of three awardees of last year's Gunlogson Fund for Research and Creative Activity, under the umbrella of the Institute for Regional Studies.
Varland's presentation evolved from her preparations as costume designer for a feature film about the founding of Medora, North Dakota. She recreated garments worn by two colorful characters from the early settlement: the buckskin suit of the Marquis Antoine De Mores and the riding and hunting gear of the Marquise Medora. Varland's project, titled "Medora's Patterns," provides text and context about the garments and the creation of standardized, multi-size patterns.
Varland's presentation will take place Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the Weber Reading Room of the NDSU Libraries Shott Collection at 3 p.m.
The Institute for Regional Studies Gunlogson Fund supports up to three projects annually, with up to $5,000 for each project. The Institute is accepting applications now through Dec. 16, for research and creative activities that will take place in 2025. Projects must align with the regional focus of the Gunlogson Fund.
