NDSU to launch affordable course materials program

SHARE

NDSU is set to launch an affordable course materials program designed to help students budget the cost of required course materials. The program, called Bison Ready, will ensure that every student will have access to their materials on the first day of class for a single flat rate, regardless of course or program type.

Beginning fall of 2025, all degree-seeking students, undergraduate and graduate, will automatically be enrolled in Bison Ready, ensuring that students receive all required digital materials, physical materials and course kits required for any program, at a fixed semesterly rate of $325 for undergraduates and $55 for graduate students for the 2025-2026 academic year. The rate is subject to annual reevaluation based on the course materials adopted by faculty, campus and course enrollment, and any other factors that would need to be accounted for.

The Bison Ready program is what is known as a cascading model, where NDSU will offer three plans to accommodate different student preferences.

• Bison Ready Complete: Students can access all required course materials for a flat rate of $325 per semester for undergrads and $55 for graduate students.

• Bison Ready Select: Students individually select and pay for the materials they want.

• Opt-Out: Students can choose to opt out entirely and purchase course materials on their own.

NDSU has been dedicated to affordability and the new Bison Ready Program builds upon this existing program and provides a greater degree of flexibility and choice.

The NDSU Bookstore remains committed to working with faculty and campus partners as we implement the program. Faculty will retain full autonomy in selecting the course materials and formats best suited for their instruction, while students benefit from a seamless, cost-effective way to obtain their materials from day one.
