Philip Hunt, registrar at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, has been named NDSU registrar. He is set to begin his new duties on June 1.
“I am pleased to report Philip Hunt has accepted the position. The search yielded several highly qualified candidates which is a testament to the positive reputation of NDSU and the Office of Registration and Records,” said Margaret Fitzgerald, Interim Provost, in making the announcement April 8. “I know you will join me in welcoming Phil to campus this summer. I also want to express my sincere thanks to the members of the search committee, and to RaNelle Ingalls and Jackie Schluchter for serving as interim co-registrars.”
Prior to his time at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Hunt held several positions at George Mason University. He was director of access and diversity, compliance officer for FERPA and FOIA and associate registrar. His experience also includes positions at the NCAA and in secondary education.
“Being invited to join the NDSU community as the new university registrar and become a Bison has brought me so much excitement,” Hunt said. “From the moment I stepped on campus, the energy and passion from faculty, staff and students was palpable. I am looking forward to getting to work with the dedicated team of staff within the Office of Registration and Records and continuing to provide support to the university's initiatives.”
Hunt earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in education from the University of Connecticut. He also earned his Juris Doctorate from University of New Hampshire Law School. He will finish his Master of Laws degree in higher education law and compliance this summer.
