Fertilization and pH
Bonsai trees require a fairly natural by more acid pH of 6 -7 (Norden). Most soil mixtures are made of pumice, clay, bark, and/or sand. Fertilization of bonsai’s according to Bonsai Basic Care indicates that a 0-10-10 is used. Just like most fertilizers, bonsai needs nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (Soil par 3).
Watering
Bonsai plants should be watered according to the type of plant being grown. Most plants require watering in the evening, or at least not when the sun will directly upon the leaves (Norden). According to Bonsai Care Basic’s water article, the best water to use is collected rain water. An owner should also water less during the dormant season, and never to use distilled water.
