How to Apply for Federal Tuition Assistance
- Each military branch has its own TA application form and procedures. To find out how to get started, visit your local installation education center, go online to a virtual education center or click on the following links for each service branch:
- Prior to your course enrollment, you may be required to develop an education plan or complete TA orientation. Be sure to keep the following important information in mind when you apply:
- Military tuition assistance may only be used to pursue degree programs at colleges and universities in the United States that are regionally or nationally accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S Department of Education. A quick way to check the accreditation of a school is by visiting the Department of Education website.
- Your service’s education center must approve your military tuition assistance before you enroll in a course.
- Students should first request and receive TA approval before making a financial commitment to Bellarmine University.
- Please visit your respective Military Service’s educational portal for additional information.

Federal Tuition Assistance (Army Ignited)
- Apply online at www.armyignited.army.mil You may apply no earlier than two months before your class start date. Applications need to be submitted SEVEN (7) days before the class start date.
If you drop a class at NDSU, you also need to drop through Army Ignited by contacting State Education Office for the National Guard (ND at 701-333-3064, or MN at 651-282-4589)
ND National Guard State Tuition Assistance
A separate application is required for each term/session.
- Applications must be received no later than 7 days before start of the semester..
- Late applications will be denied
You will receive an email confirmation upon receipt of the application
If you have difficulties, email the Tuition State Assistance Office ndtuitionast@ng.army.mil or call (701) 333-3008.
MN National Guard STR
A separate application is required for each term/session.
- Must have used all of your FTA in order to receive STR
- Applications must be received no later than 90 days after end of the semester.
- Late applications will be denied
- Must include MOA/R from Unit Admin, Grades, and Financial Statement from University

NDSU prohibits inducements (including any gratuity, favor, discount, entertainment, hospitality, loan, transportation, lodging, meals, or other item having a monetary value of more than a de minimus amount) to any individual or entity (other than salaries paid to employees or fees paid to contractors in conformity with all applicable laws) for the purpose of securing enrollments of Service members or obtaining access to TA funds. In addition, NDSU officials do not participate in high-pressure recruitment tactics for the purpose of securing Service member enrollment, nor do they provide any commission, bonus, or other incentive payment based directly or indirectly on securing enrollments or Federal financial aid (including TA funds) to any persons or entities engaged in any student recruiting, admission activities, or making decisions regarding the award of student financial assistance.
