Volunteer Orientation

COURSE DETAILS
This course contains 6 modules and will take up to 90 minutes to complete. It is best to work through the 6 modules sequentially, starting with Module 1.
As you move through the modules, you will encounter the following:
- Written content with supporting images and graphics
- Audio players to listen to the on-screen text
- Knowledge checks that reinforce your understanding of course content
- Completion forms at the end of the module that you must submit to confirm your completion
If you need to leave the training for any reason, it will resume where you left off.
Note: You must use the same device (e.g., your phone) and browser (e.g., Google Chrome). When you are ready to continue the module, return to the same browser using the same device and select the survey link to resume. Each module must be completed within two weeks of starting the module
COURSE MODULES

Module 1: NDSU 4-H Youth Development: Who We Are and What We Do
Estimated time: up to 15 minutes
This module will help you answer questions like:
- What is the mission and structure of North Dakota 4-H?
- How does 4-H create opportunities for all?
- What are the rules for correctly using the 4-H name and emblem?

Module 2: Positive Youth Development in ND 4-H
Estimated time: up to 10 minutes
This module will help you answer questions like:
- What makes Positive Youth Development (PYD) so important in 4-H?
- How can you help youth 'learn by doing' in 4-H?

Module 3: ND 4-H Volunteer Roles and Learning Opportunities
Estimated time: up to 15 minutes
This module will help you answer questions like:
- What types of 4-H volunteer roles exist—and what's expected in each one?
- Which role might be the best fit for my interests and availability?
- How can staying connected with my NDSU Extension office help me make the most of my volunteer experience?

Module 4: ND 4-H Operations
Estimated time: up to 15 minutes
This module will help you answer questions like:
- How does 4-H create public value when youth thrive?
- What are the program guidelines that 4-H volunteers are expected to follow— and why?
- Why is volunteer screening important— for both youth and volunteers?

Module 5: ND 4-H Risk Management
Estimated time: up to 20 minutes
This module will help you answer questions like:
- What policies help minimize risk during 4-H activities?
- What are my responsibilities if something goes wrong?
- What kind of insurance coverage applies to youth and volunteers?

Module 6: Resources for ND 4-H Volunteers
Estimated time: up to 15 minutes
This module will help you answer questions like:
- What resources are available to me as a 4-H volunteer, and
- Where can I find them?
CONFIRMATION OF COMPLETION
Upon successful completion, you will receive a confirmation email. Your NDSU Extension county office will also be notified of your successful completion.
RE-ORIENTATION
Volunteer screening and orientation is repeated every three years. When it is time for re-screening and re-orientation, volunteers will be prompted with instructions for completing the online processes.
