A typical museum involves four walls and a narrative. This structure typically leads people from one enclosed object to another to tell a story about a people, a location, or a period of time. This museum has broken down these walls and brought the objects to various locations across NDSU’s campus and, eventually, beyond. In order to accomplish this, we created the concept of “portals.” These portals can be found all around campus, marked by a magnifying glass and they showcase one or multiple objects from the wonderful collections that have been donated. Since portals involve both looking, as through a window, and also allow traveling through both space and time, it seemed apt to use these to organize the museum.
