NDSU’s Department of History, Philosophy and Religious Studies is set to host a special film and panel discussion event honoring women’s history month. The 15-minute documentary film, “I Plan to vote With My Daughters,” is scheduled to be shown Wednesday, March 11, at 7 p.m. at the Fargo Theater. It tells the story of the road to women’s suffrage in North Dakota.
Admission is free.
Following the film, a panel discussion will examine the impact of women’s right to vote and the importance of preserving the history of the local suffrage movement.
Panel members are slated to include:
• Emily Kulzer, director of museum operations at the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County
• Alison Graham-Bertolini, NDSU associate professor of English literature and women’s studies
• Amelia Everhart, NDSU undergraduate student studying public history
• Ann Braaten, NDSU associate professor and curator of the Emily P. Reynolds Historic Costume Collection
Ashley Baggett, assistant professor of history at NDSU will serve as the moderator.
The film was produced by Angela Smith, associate professor of history at NDSU, and her students during fall semester.
“This event is important to celebrating Fargo-Moorhead’s unique role in the suffrage movement, honoring women’s history and upholding the legacy 100 years after the ratification of the 19th Amendment,” said Baggett, who is one of the event organizers.
