NDSU students will soon have exciting internship opportunities because Plug and Play is coming to Fargo.
The business innovation platform announced March 4 that its new Fargo location will focus on agriculture technology. The Fargo site will collaborate with four founding partners: Bremer Bank, CHS, Microsoft Corp. and The OCP Group. Full operations are scheduled to begin in late May.
Internships will be coordinated by the Nice Center on the NDSU campus.
"We're grateful to Plug and Play and its corporate partners for their investment in North Dakota's entrepreneurial ecosystem,” Gov. Doug Burgum said during the announcement ceremony. “As a national leader in agriculture and farm technology, North Dakota is an ideal place for startups from around the globe to test their technology, grow their companies and advance agriculture for our nation and world."
The Nice Center will partner with companies that are accepted into the Plug and Play accelerator and coordinate student internships.
“Plug and Play will connect NDSU students with the top ag tech companies from around the world. By meeting these founders and potentially working with their companies, our students will receive a world-class education outside the classroom that will prepare them to create the future of ag tech,” said Scott Meyer, Ozbun Executive Director of Entrepreneurship and Nice Center director.
“The Nice Internships will quickly connect students with startups coming to Fargo,” Meyer said. “These internships will give our students real-world experience with leading tech companies, and our students will provide the talent needed for these companies to grow. This is a unique opportunity only available in five other locations in the entire country, so the Nice Center couldn't be more excited for this great collaboration.”
Plug and Play has offices in more than 25 cities worldwide and works with hundreds of startup companies each year. Startups accepted into the programs at Fargo will have the opportunity to work with the corporate partners and test their technology at the Grand Farm Test Site. Grand Farm is Emerging Prairie's agricultural technology initiative located just south of Fargo.
