Gunlogson Presentation to focus on campus landscape survey

SHARE

NDSU Libraries are set to host the 2022 Gunlogson Presentation virtually on Thursday, April 21, at noon. Speakers include Department of Landscape Architecture faculty members Anna Maria Visilia, associate professor, and Dominic Fisher, associate professor and chair.

The talk, “A Historic Landscape Survey for the NDSU Campus,” will describe how campus landscapes are tangible cultural forms of universities. They are considered valuable cultural heritage landscapes that embody each university’s philosophy, characteristics, aesthetic values and educational mindset. The project, “The Landscape Architecture of the 1921 Morrel and Nichols Plan for Future Development of Buildings and Grounds: A Historic American Landscape Survey for the North Dakota State University Campus,” is primarily a historical analysis to complete a short-format Historic American Landscape Survey to be recorded by the National Park Service for the Library of Congress.

The study will rely heavily on the Institute for Regional Studies Archives for photographs, maps, local newspapers and several other archived items, including the papers of the late Dennis Colliton, former NDSU landscape architecture faculty member.

The G.B. Gunlogson Endowment supports scholarly work related to the publications and archives of the Institute for Regional Studies, advancing general university outreach. The fund is jointly managed by the NDSU College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and NDSU Libraries to enhance NDSU’s land grant mission.

Campus members can watch for the NDSU Libraries' email newsletter to acquire the link. Community members may email lindsay.condry@ndsu.edu to get the link.

If you are unable to attend, the presentation will be available to view later in the NDSU Repository.

As a student-focused, land-grant, research university, we serve our citizens.
