NDSU’s Office of Teaching and Learning is scheduled to host a live, online webinar, titled “Engaging Students in Face-to-Face and Online Courses,” on Monday, Nov. 7, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The webinar will feature Jay Howard, professor and dean at Butler University.
He is the author of “Discussion in the College Classroom: Getting Your Students Engaged and Participating in Person and Online.”
Howard will address these topics:
• Why we should seek to engage students
• Classroom norms that can undermine participation
• Which students are most likely to participate
• Which students are more likely to choose not to participate
• Strategies for managing dominant talkers and quieter students
• How to effectively engage online students.
"We know engagement is directly tied not only to learning but also to student satisfaction with the learning experience. The ideas Dr. Howard will provide are the types of things that can be used immediately to make a difference in your class,” said Stacy Duffield, Office of Teaching and Learning director.
The event is free and open to all educators. Individuals can access the webinar using the Zoom platform.
