NDSU’s Office of Teaching and Learning is scheduled to host a live webinar titled “Creating Equitable Environments For Fostering Student Engagement” on Monday, Dec. 5, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Stephen John Quaye, professor in the Higher Education and Student Affairs Program at The Ohio State University, will address how language matters when trying to foster environments where students can succeed.
“Dr. Quaye’s session is incredibly valuable for increasing a sense of belonging among our students, helping instructors to develop equitable and engaging learning environments necessary for learner retention,” said Stacy Duffield, director of the Office of Teaching and Learning.
Through this webinar participants will understand how to create equitable environments that foster student engagement. They also will reflect on identity in relation to teaching.
Quaye’s presentation will guide attendees in:
• Reflecting on social identity
• Understanding the difference between diversity, inclusion, equity, equality and social justice
• Distinguishing between involvement and engagement
• Developing one action-oriented strategy for fostering student engagement in a course
Quaye is the editor of The Journal of Higher Education and past president of ACPA: College Student Educators International.
The event is free and open to all educators. Individuals will access the webinar using the Zoom platform.
