Billing and Payments Deadlines

Student Billing

Students are expected to monitor their account in Campus Connection and ensure that NDSU receives payment in full in a timely manner. In the fall and spring semesters, financial aid is disbursed during the third week of class and the official payment due date is the following day. No holds will be placed on the student account if payment is received within the two weeks following the semester due date. The semester due date may be found within NDSU’s published Dates & Deadlines.

Past due student accounts are subject to registration and transcript holds and may result in late payment fees and/or the cancellation of registration.

Currently enrolled students are NOT mailed paper invoices and/or statements. Instead, a monthly reminder email is sent to the student indicating that an electronic billing statement has been generated and is available for review. Account information is accessible any time via Campus Connection in the Financial Account tile of the Student Homepage. Students hold the sole responsibility for reviewing their account for accuracy and making timely payments. For more detailed information regarding the financial responsibilities of the student, please review the Financial Obligation Agreement.

Late Payment Fees

  • North Dakota State University assesses a monthly late payment fee of 1.75% on all past due student accounts.
  • Late fees for student accounts begin after thirty days of delinquency.
  • The late payment fee assessed is based on the student’s past due balance as of 11:59 p.m. on the 15th of the month.
  • Students should allow ample mailing time and ensure that payment is received before late payment fees are assessed. Late fees will not be waived as a result of unanticipated mailing delays. To mitigate the risk of mail service delays, students are encouraged to make online electronic check payments via Campus Connection.
  • Loans, both federal and from private lenders, must be received by NDSU before the late payment fee deadline. No consideration will be granted for loan applications in progress, loans delayed by missing documentation, or lender-imposed waiting periods. Students should allow a minimum of four weeks for the lender to process their loan application and transfer the funds to NDSU.
  • Scholarship checks from outside donors must be received before the late payment fee deadline.
  • Late payment fees will not be waived in instances where the receipt of financial aid was delayed due to inaction by the student. Examples include, but are not limited to, the completion of the FAFSA, accepting loans in Campus Connection, the completion of U.S. Department of Education documents (e.g., MPN) and tasks (e.g., entrance loan counseling), and the submission of verification documents.
  • Students with a third-party payor arrangement may be responsible for late payment fees if the required written authorization to bill the sponsor is not received by NDSU prior to the semester due date.
  • Unpaid late payment fees do not accrue additional fees.
  • Apartment rent is not subject to the 1.75% late payment fee on the fifteenth of each month, however, a separate flat fee of $35 is assessed by the NDSU Residence Life department on late rent payments.
  • Partial payments will reduce the amount of the late fee assessed, given that the late fee is a percentage of the past due balance. Partial payment will not prevent a late fee from being charged.
