My research group is housed in the Prairie Ecosystems Research Center (PERC) at SBC where I serve as the lead researcher. At the center we focus on environmental issues of importance to Tribal communities in the Great Plains region of America. Research conducted at PERC seeks to provide tangible scientific data in support of the decision making process in these Tribal communities My research group at PERC studies interfaces in microbial ecology; with emphasis on the interactions with climate change, wildlife disease host-pathogen interactions, microbial indicators of water and air quality, and microbial biodegradation systems. We combine microbiologic, field and genomic techniques, with sound cultural and indigenous knowledge, to understand the dynamic ecological functions microbes have in the prairie region.
