Helpful Suggestions for Users

  • When entering gases into CHIMERA it is helpful to first convert volume to cubic feet.
  • Obtain barcodes from the chemical stockroom to barcode chemicals.
  • Static entries should be used for high volume, high turnover, easy to count items. Barcode all others.
  • Any access issues contact Monty at 701-231-5637
  • Be aware when entering inventory that there will be a slight delay before you will see it in the system. This is because it is verified before it is released to the live data by an external party. Eventually, you can run an inventory report to verify chemical was entered. The delay for products already in the system because they are being used by others on campus is very short, so you should only see an extended delay for new products. FYI, this is because Safety Data Sheets are looked up and tied to the chemicals in the system, an extremely useful benefit of the electronic inventory system.
  • Use product number (aka part number) when searching for chemicals and verify with search results, this will reduce any send backs from CHIMERA and reduce delay.
  • Each lab space containing chemicals needs an inventory- you may discuss among yourselves how best to accomplish this among shared spaces. Another reason barcodes are helpful!
  • You may call or email to schedule a time to walk you through the creation or entering of the first few items with the help of safety office personnel.

Emergency Equipment Inspections

At North Dakota State University, the Safety Office ensures that all emergency equipment, including eyewashes, safety showers, and fume hoods, is inspected at least annually. The inspection data is recorded in CHIMERA, a cloud-based safety management system, to ensure transparency and easy access for students, staff, and faculty.

How to Access Inspection Data
  1. Locate the Barcode:
Each piece of emergency equipment in your laboratory is labeled with a unique barcode.
  2. Enter the Barcode in CHIMERA:
    • Visit the following webpage: CHIMERA Equipment Data Search.
    • Input the barcode into the search field to view the most recent inspection data for that equipment.
Questions or Concerns?

If you have any questions about interpreting the data or concerns regarding the condition of emergency equipment, please call or email the Safety Office.
