Lab Members
Our lab group changes frequently as students go on to complete their degrees; this is our current research group.
Janice Tagoe
Graduate Student (PhD)
I am from Ghana, West Africa.
My current work focuses on improving the growth and resilience of tomato plants. Specifically, I am investigating the combined effects of the plant growth-promoting bacterium, Azospirillum brasilense (‘probiotic’) and plant root exudates (‘prebiotics’) on tomato plant growth.
My research also explores the protective capabilities of this probiotic/prebiotic combination against the pathogen Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato and the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici .
Outside the lab, I enjoy spending time with my family.
Bidya Ojha
Graduate Student (Master's)
I am a master's student in Dr. Pruess's lab, having joined in Fall 2024. Prior to this, I have earned my bachelor's degree in agriculture from Agriculture and Forestry University, Nepal. My research specifically focuses on investigating the incorporation of beneficial bacteria, Azospirillum brasilense, as a biocontrol agent against bacterial and fungal pathogens in peas and also exploring effect of pea exudates on bacterial activity for improved pathogen control and plant growth. Outside of my academic pursuits, I enjoy watching movies, cooking, and exploring local shops.
