We study how signaling by the gut hormone Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP) impacts gut microbiome composition and plays an important role in fat deposition and inflammation that can lead to obesity and other chronic conditions.
A central hypothesis of our research is that altered VIP signaling contributes to hallmarks of obesity, including changes in metabolism, immunity and the gut microbiota.
VIP signaling is expected to play important roles in obesity development by regulating fat deposition, abnormal inflammation and altered gut microbiome composition promoting human obesity and leading to associated human disorders.
